What is the SAT exam?

It is an international American exam that is recognized by almost all countries in the world, which aims to maintain the quality of education, and is conducted by the College Board,

This test is also very widespread in the countries of the Arab world, especially in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan.

As it is considered an important and major factor for admission to Turkish public universities, and the importance of this exam is that it makes the student ready to enter the college.

There are two types of SAT exam:
First: SAT 1 or SAT Test

This type is known and required in Turkish universities, as a number of Turkish public universities required it as a prerequisite in the selection process among international applicants, which is what we will talk about.

The second: SAT Subjects Test

As for this type, it is advanced and specializes in a specific subject out of a total of 19 majors, and it is not required and was not mentioned at all on the websites of Turkish universities.

The first is a 25-minute test consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions.

The second is a 25-minute test, consisting of 8 multiple choice questions and ten direct solution questions.

The third is a 20-minute test consisting of 16 multiple-choice questions.

Reading and Grammar: This section also includes three tests in English; So that two of them are 25 minutes long, and the third test is 20 minutes long.

This test generally focuses on the student’s terminology and vocabulary in the language, and the student’s ability to compose and understand sentences and phrases.

In this test, the student must read the paragraphs, then proceed to solve the questions, and the nature of the questions here is multiple and varied.

English reading section: Herein lies the difficulty of the test to some extent.

The test questions include various vocabulary from the humanities, such as literary novels, social sciences, and natural sciences

Therefore, it is a Western vocabulary and did not pass on most students, even those who think themselves are proficient in the English language.

Writing section in the English language: This test is divided into two parts: the first section is given questions of the type of multiple choice,

The questions are of the type (true or false) with error correction, and this section aims to test the student’s skills in English grammar.

The second section, which lasts 25 minutes, asks the student to write a paragraph in English, whose topic usually revolves around the student’s opinion on a specific issue or matter.

Who supervises the SAT test?

The SAT test is offered and developed by the College Board, which is a private, non-profit organization in the United States, founded in December of 1899 as the College Entrance Examination Board, to increase access to a higher education degree.

It includes institutes and higher educational institutions, which include more than 6,000 schools, colleges, universities and other educational organizations, as it develops and administers standardized tests and curricula used by educational institutions from pre-kindergarten to higher education, and the headquarters of the College Board are located in New York City in the United States.

The purpose of the SAT test

The test aims to assess the readiness of students to enter a university. The test was originally designed not to align with the high school curriculum, but several modifications have been made to the test from the year 2016. The test procedure is intended to more closely reflect what students learn in high school with the new Common Core Standards of Education.

Many universities around the world require the SAT test certificate as a requirement for admission to it, which makes this test one of the keys to accessing higher education in American universities in addition to a number of Arab universities, especially in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan, and an increasing number of Turkish universities have begun to request the SAT test as a condition for university admission.

SAT test duration

The total time for the SAT test is three hours, 180 minutes distributed as follows: (65 minutes for reading, 35 minutes for reading and language, 25 minutes for mathematics without a calculator, and 55 minutes for mathematics with a calculator), or three hours and fifty minutes if applying for the optional essay section,

SAT scores

Scores for the SAT are awarded as follows:

The marks of the first section (reading) are combined with the second section (writing and language) in marks ranging from 200 to 800.
The marks of the Mathematics Department in its two sections (with and without a calculator) are combined into marks ranging from 200 to 800.
